Day 5 part 1

From the forecast I was expecting a chilly night but it felt milder than previous nights, possibly because there was little wind. The dawn chorus was mainly geese for a change. The view from the tent was still as good in the morning.

Three miles on the road I came to Ardverikie house, famous for Monarch of the Glen and other films.

Another few miles I got to a big beach at the end of the Loch.

I was then trying to open one of the many gates when two bikers appeared on the other side. They were the two people I had met doing the Traws Eryri (Trans Snowdonia) last year. So we chatted for a while, took a photo and wondered where we might meet next May!

I had only half my water bottles full so I was relieved to fill up after talking with some farm workers at Glenshero. Then at Garva bridge I joined General Wade's military road, built to suppress the Jacobites in the  18th century. The road goes over the Corrieyairack pass to Fort Augustus. Ahead of me was my biggest climb of 1700 ft so I stopped for some pot noodles and to use the facilities.
The climb was tough with zig zags for the last 500 ft that I had to push the bike up.
